Potato Please pays you for finished work and sells you ways to finish work faster. That is a closed loop: any upgrade that does not shorten the loop is a decoration. The shop is not a talent tree; it is a list of time savings with a price.
The decision rule
Before buying anything, answer one question: which step of the line does this shorten, and by how much per potato? If you cannot answer, do not buy it yet.
| Upgrade type | Shortens | Compounds with | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knife tiers | Peel time on every potato | Technique, hand shake setting | Almost always first |
| Carry capacity | Walk time per batch | Layout, channel speed | Second unless your board is empty |
| Channel speed | Queue time at the water | Machine output, hopper | Buy when the inlet backs up |
| Machines | Whole hand actions | Loading, power, output | Only when fed continuously |
| Crane / vacuum | Bulk pile handling | Autopilot, recount | Mid-game, once the pile is the constraint |
| Cosmetics / jokes | Nothing | — | Buy last, if at all |
A general ordering, not a price list. The shop shows real prices in-game; we do not reproduce numbers the developer has not published.
Saving is a purchase
Holding money for a big machine is only correct if the machine removes the constraint you have. Otherwise you are paying interest in boredom: the pile keeps growing while you wait for a tool that does not address the slow step.
Four purchases that are almost never wrong
- Knife. Touches every potato, forever.
- Carry capacity. Removes walking, which produces nothing.
- Channel speed. Converts a queue into throughput, and 1.0.2 made the top levels faster.
- Hopper loading. Keeps a machine fed while you do something else; 1.0.2 fixed hoppers keeping potatoes across saves, so the investment persists.
Two traps
If you want the exact order we recommend for a fresh save, it is on the upgrade ladder.
